Behind each waxy white flower hangs a spur up to thirty centimeters long, with nectar only at its very bottom. When Darwin saw it in 1862, he predicted that a moth with an equally long tongue must pollinate it, and many people doubted him. Decades later just such a hawk moth was found and named praedicta, meaning predicted.
