Birth flower for December 16
Flame vine
Meaning: good fortune, celebration
Flame vine hangs its long orange flower tubes in dangling bunches, which is why Chinese speakers call it the firecracker flower. In Taiwan it peaks from late winter into early spring, right around Lunar New Year, so it is often trained over walls and pergolas that turn completely orange. Back home in South America, those long tubes are made for hummingbirds.
