Birth flower for December 17
Laurustinus
Meaning: look at me
Laurustinus starts blooming in winter, when little else does, and keeps going for months as its pink buds open into white flowers. Afterwards it sets glossy, metallic blue berries. Researchers found that blue is not a pigment at all: it is structural color, made by tiny layered fat droplets in the fruit's skin that reflect blue light.
