Birth flower for November 24
African violet
Meaning: a little love
In 1892, Baron Walter von Saint Paul-Illaire, a German colonial official, found this plant in the mountains of what is now Tanzania and sent seeds home to Germany, so it was named Saintpaulia after him. In the wild it hides in damp, shady rock crevices, yet it became one of the best-loved windowsill plants in the world.
