Birth flower for November 4
Tree dahlia
Meaning: a maiden's true heart
The tree dahlia grows hollow, jointed, bamboo-like canes three to six meters tall, often higher than the eaves. It only sets buds once autumn days grow short, opening pale lavender-pink single flowers in November and December. In Japan it is called the emperor dahlia. Frost kills the canes, but new shoots rise from the roots in spring.
