Incurved chrysanthemum
Meaning: Nobility, high ideals
Atsumono, the incurved type, is one of the classic forms of Japan's large exhibition chrysanthemums. Every petal curls up and in toward the center, stacking into a tight dome, while a fringe of longer petals hangs below like a skirt. Growers pinch off side buds so each stem carries just one huge bloom, a project that takes almost a year.
