Birth flower for October 31
Cape honeysuckle
Meaning: vitality, passion
Despite its name, cape honeysuckle is not a honeysuckle at all but a member of the trumpet vine family. Its narrow, slightly curved orange tubes are shaped for the long bills of South African sunbirds, which pollinate the flowers while they sip nectar. Tough in heat and drought, it keeps flowering for much of the year in warm climates.
