Birth flower for October 27
Cooktown orchid
Meaning: Welcome, good wishes
Its old name, Dendrobium phalaenopsis, means a dendrobium that looks like a moth orchid, and its two broad petals stand up like rabbit ears. The wild species is the floral emblem of Queensland, Australia, and its common name comes from the town of Cooktown. Thailand grows it by the million for cut flowers, and in Hawaii it is strung into leis.
