Birth flower for October 28
Kan-ran orchid
Meaning: Grace
Kan-ran means cold orchid, because it blooms as the weather cools from late autumn into early winter. Its sepals and petals are long and narrow like a star, several flowers spaced along one tall stem, with a clean, delicate scent. It is one of the classic oriental orchids. Collecting crazes in places like Kochi stripped wild populations, and it is now endangered in Japan.
