Birth flower for September 29
Pink muhly grass
Meaning: gentle romance
The genus Muhlenbergia honors Gotthilf Muhlenberg, an 18th-century American pastor and botanist. It is really a grass: the pink cloud is made of countless hair-thin flower panicles and long awns. With autumn light behind it, a planting looks like glowing pink mist, and in recent years it has become a favorite autumn photo plant in both Taiwan and Japan.
