Sedum

Sedum

Meaning: tranquility

Sedum is usually traced to the Latin for "to sit," after the way these plants perch on rocks and old walls. Their plump, water-storing leaves make them so drought-proof that they're a go-to for green roofs. In Japan one species is named after the legendary warrior monk Benkei, because cut stems just keep on living — as tough as he was.
