Birth flower for August 31
Glory bush
Meaning: calm and devoted love
Glory bush wears velvety petals of deep royal purple, and from the center ten purple stamens curl out with hooked tips, like the legs of a spider. Each flower lasts only two or three days, but buds keep opening one after another from summer to late autumn. Its species name, urvilleana, honors the French explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville.
