Birth flower for August 29
Belladonna lily
Meaning: pride, radiant beauty
Belladonna is Italian for beautiful lady. In late summer this bulb sends up a bare, purplish stem crowned by a ring of pink trumpet flowers, with no leaves anywhere in sight, which is why it is also called naked lady. The strap-shaped leaves appear only after the flowers fade, grow through the cool months, and die back again in spring.
