Birth flower for August 8
Sunflower
Meaning: Adoration, loyalty
Sunflowers really do follow the sun, but only while young: the buds swing from east to west during the day and turn back east overnight. Once fully open, most heads settle facing east. Native to North America, they were grown for food by Indigenous peoples thousands of years ago, and Van Gogh's famous sunflower paintings made them one of art history's brightest stars.
