Birth flower for August 9
Gaura
Meaning: Never give up
Gaura's white flowers perch along long, wiry stems like a swarm of resting butterflies, and when the wind blows they seem to take off, which is why it is nicknamed whirling butterflies. In Japan it is called hakuchoso, the white butterfly plant. Each bloom lasts only about a day, but new ones keep opening up the stems from late spring to autumn.
