Birth flower for July 29
Globe amaranth
Meaning: Unfading love
Its Japanese and Chinese names mean thousand-day red, because the color seems to last forever. Each little ball is a cluster of dry, papery bracts, and the true flowers are the tiny yellow specks peeking between them. Picked stems dry on their own and keep their color, so globe amaranth is a favorite for wreaths, garlands and everlasting bouquets, and in Japan it often appears in Obon offerings.
