Birth flower for July 28
Crocosmia
Meaning: cheerfulness, happy memories
The name Crocosmia comes from the Greek words for saffron and smell, because the dried flowers give off a saffron-like scent when soaked in warm water. The common garden hybrid was raised by the French nurseryman Victor Lemoine around 1880. Its corms multiply quickly, and it has escaped gardens to grow wild in Japan and many other places.
