Birth flower for July 22
White egret orchid
Meaning: i think of you even in my dreams
Each side lobe of the lip is cut into a fine fringe, so the whole flower looks like a white egret in flight. A legend from Setagaya in Tokyo tells of Princess Tokiwa, who tied a letter to an egret's leg; the bird was shot down, and egret orchids sprang up where it fell. Today it is the official flower of Setagaya Ward and of Himeji City.
