Birth flower for July 20
Edelweiss
Meaning: Precious memories and courage
Edelweiss means 'noble white' in German. What look like white petals are actually woolly bracts; the true flowers are tiny buttons in the middle, and the fuzz shields them from alpine cold and fierce UV. The song from The Sound of Music made it world-famous, but it was written for the musical — it is not an Austrian folk song.
