Birth flower for June 10
Hypericum
Meaning: usefulness, many talents
Hypericum monogynum is crowned by a burst of long golden stamens that look like fine gold threads. In Japan it is written as "willow of Weiyang", a phrase borrowed from Bai Juyi's poem Song of Everlasting Sorrow, because its narrow leaves resemble willow. Its cousin St John's wort is named for flowering around St John's Day, June 24, when it was hung over doors to ward off evil.
