Birth flower for June 8
Astilbe
Meaning: love arriving, freedom
Each astilbe plume is made of thousands of tiny flowers, so it looks like a soft feather. The name comes from Greek for without brightness, said to refer to the dull leaves of some species. It is one of the few flowers that blooms well in partial shade, which makes it a favorite for cool corners under trees. Japan has wild relatives in its mountains too.
