Birth flower for June 7
Satsuki azalea
Meaning: temperance, faithfulness
Satsuki is named for the fifth month of the old Japanese calendar, when it blooms about a month after other azaleas. It sports easily, so a single plant may carry pink, white and streaked flowers at once, which makes it a favorite for bonsai. Kanuma in Tochigi holds a satsuki festival every May and June, filled with trained plants.
