Birth flower for May 27
Elderflower
Meaning: Zeal and compassion
Scandinavian folklore says an Elder Mother lives in the tree, and you should ask her permission before cutting it. Across Europe the creamy flower heads are steeped into cordials and teas that taste of early summer. The Chinese name means bone-mending wood, from its long use in folk remedies for sprains and bruises.
