Meaning: Return of happiness
Lily of the valley hangs its tiny white bells in a row and smells so sweet that it became a classic note in perfume. In France, people give each other sprigs on May 1 for luck, a custom said to date back to King Charles IX handing them to ladies of his court in the 1500s. It is also the official city flower of Sapporo in Japan.
