Birth flower for April 30
Statice
Meaning: remembrance, everlasting love
The purple, pink or yellow 'petals' of statice are actually papery calyces; the real flowers are the tiny white dots inside. Because the calyx keeps its color when dried, statice is a classic everlasting flower, and in East Asian flower language it means 'a heart that never changes'. It originally grew on salty Mediterranean shores, which is why it is also called sea lavender.
