Birth flower for April 16
Rhododendron
Meaning: dignity
In the 4th century BC the Greek general Xenophon wrote that his soldiers near the Black Sea ate local honey and fell sick and dazed. The bees had fed on rhododendron nectar, which carries grayanotoxin, and such honey is still called mad honey. Most rhododendrons grow in cool mountains, and in Japan they are admired as noble flowers of the heights.
