Birth flower for April 14
Tung blossom
Meaning: pure white longing
During the Japanese era, Taiwan planted tung trees widely, pressing tung oil from the seeds for paint and waterproofing. The industry faded, but the trees stayed in the Hakka hills of Miaoli and Hsinchu, where each April and May the white flowers drop whole like snow, earning the name May snow. Since 2002 the Hakka Affairs Council has held the Hakka Tung Blossom Festival.
