Meaning: resolved to win
Each petal stretches back into a long hollow spur with nectar at the tip, reachable only by long-tongued bees and hummingbirds. The name columbine comes from the Latin for dove, because the flower upside down looks like five doves huddled together. The scientific name Aquilegia comes from eagle, comparing the spurs to talons. In Japan it is named after a spool of wound thread.
