Birth flower for April 4
Peony
Meaning: Prosperity, honor
In China the tree peony is called the 'king of flowers'. During the Tang dynasty the capital Chang'an went wild for it, and the poet Liu Yuxi wrote that when peonies bloomed, the whole city was stirred. Luoyang later became the peony capital and still holds a peony festival every April. Its huge, ruffled blooms stand for wealth and honor and appear endlessly in Chinese painting and embroidery.
