Birth flower for April 2
Wisteria
Meaning: Welcome, devotion
Wisteria is named after the American anatomist Caspar Wistar. In Japan, fuji, the word for wisteria, appears in the name of the powerful Fujiwara clan and inspired the famous kabuki dance Fuji Musume, the Wisteria Maiden. Look closely at the vines: viewed from above, Japanese wisteria twines clockwise while Chinese wisteria twines counterclockwise.
