Birth flower for April 1
Azalea
Meaning: Take care of yourself
A Chinese legend says an ancient king of Shu turned into a cuckoo after death and cried until he coughed blood, staining the hillside flowers red, so azaleas share the cuckoo's name in Chinese. It is the campus flower of National Taiwan University, which holds an azalea festival every March. Its nectar is toxic too: ancient Greek soldiers once fell ill en masse after eating mad honey made from it.
