Birth flower for February 21
Pussy willow
Meaning: freedom
Those silvery, furry buds on pussy willow are catkins that haven't fully opened yet, wrapped in silky hairs that keep out the cold. Japanese call it cat willow for its tail-like softness. In Taiwan and Hong Kong it is a favorite Lunar New Year decoration, because its Chinese name sounds like silver money, a wish for prosperity.
