Birth flower for January 8
Pansy
Meaning: Think of me
Pansy comes from the French pensée, meaning thought, because the nodding flower looks like a little face lost in thought. Its wild ancestor is the love-in-idleness of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, whose juice makes a sleeper fall for the first creature they see. The big-faced modern pansy was bred by British gardeners in the nineteenth century.
