Meaning: serenity, relief from anxiety
Despite the name, the Christmas rose is a buttercup relative, not a rose — the original species blooms through snow around Christmas in Europe. Legend says a shepherd girl wept because she had no gift for the newborn Jesus, and an angel turned her tears into these flowers. Its nodding “petals” are really sepals, which is why the blooms last for weeks.
