Birth flower for December 26
Sweet alyssum
Meaning: worth beyond beauty
The name alyssum comes from Greek words meaning against madness, since related plants were once believed to cure rabies or calm the mind. Each plant crowds hundreds of tiny cross-shaped white flowers into rounded heads with a sweet honey scent. That scent draws bees and hoverflies, so gardeners often plant it beside vegetables to bring in helpful insects.
