Birth flower for December 22
Karako camellia
Meaning: Modest excellence
Karako is a camellia flower form with one ring of broad petals and a mound of tiny petaloids in the center, made from transformed stamens. Its name comes from karako, the Chinese children with puffy topknots seen in old Japanese paintings. The classic cultivar Bokuhan has red petals around a white center and is also known as Gekko.
