Birth flower for December 6
Calandiva kalanchoe
Meaning: lasting happiness
Wild kalanchoes from Madagascar have just four petals each. Calandiva is a double-flowered line bred in the Netherlands, its petals stacked so thickly that each bloom looks like a miniature rose. It is a short-day plant that only sets buds after weeks of long nights, which is why it bursts into flower in winter and has become a favorite gift plant around the new year.
