Birth flower for November 27
Nippon daisy
Meaning: standing up to hardship
The Nippon daisy is a seaside subshrub of northern Honshu's Pacific coast; its lower stems turn woody, and in autumn it opens white daisies about six centimetres across. It is the only species in its genus, Nipponanthemum, which simply means the flower of Japan. Because it keeps blooming on windswept rocks and sand, its Japanese flower meaning is standing up to hardship.
