Birth flower for November 10
Bouvardia
Meaning: enthusiasm, friendship
The genus is named after Charles Bouvard, physician to King Louis XIII of France and superintendent of the royal garden of medicinal plants in Paris. In Japan it is called kanchoji, meaning cold-season clove, because it blooms as the weather cools and its small tubular flowers resemble cloves. Its clusters of four-pointed stars are a favorite in wedding bouquets.
