Birth flower for October 18
Autumn daffodil
Meaning: anticipation
Its botanical name honors Count Kaspar von Sternberg, a Bohemian botanist. It sends up golden flowers along with its leaves in autumn and looks a lot like a crocus, but it belongs to the amaryllis family, closer to daffodils. Some scholars have suggested it may be the lilies of the field mentioned in the Bible.
