Birth flower for October 15
Cactus dahlia
Meaning: Gratitude
Cactus dahlias have petals whose edges roll backward into long, pointed tubes, so the flower looks spiky. The form traces back to Juarezii, a variety sent from Mexico to the Netherlands in 1872 and named after Mexican president Benito Juarez. Its bloom reminded people of a cactus flower, so this whole group became known as cactus dahlias.
