Birth flower for September 25
Mexican bush sage
Meaning: Family love
Its species name, leucantha, means white-flowered, because the true flowers are the little white lipped blooms poking out. The fuzzy purple part is actually the calyx, soft as velvet and long-lasting, which is why the spikes keep their color for weeks and dry so well for arrangements. Hummingbirds visit it in its native range.
