Birth flower for September 21
Flamegold tree
Meaning: the four-color tree that changes with the seasons
Found wild only in Taiwan, this tree is nicknamed the four-color tree. It is green all spring and summer, then in autumn the crown fills with golden flower sprays, followed by clusters of puffy pink seed capsules that look like paper lanterns and finally dry to brown. Often yellow, pink, brown and green hang on one tree at once, making it the classic sight of a Taiwanese autumn street.
