Birth flower for September 15
Swamp rose mallow
Meaning: delicate beauty
Its blooms can be more than 20 centimeters across, among the biggest of any perennial that survives winter outdoors. It grows wild in marshes and along rivers in North America and does not mind wet roots. Each flower lasts only one day, but new buds keep opening for weeks. In winter the stems die back, and fresh shoots rise from the roots in spring.
