Meaning: delicate beauty
Cotton rose flowers open almost white in the morning and blush to pink and then deep rose by evening, as if they were getting drunk; the double form is even called the drunken hibiscus in Chinese and Japanese. Legend says a 10th-century ruler of Shu planted the city walls of Chengdu with it, and Chengdu is still nicknamed the city of hibiscus.
