Meaning: Harmony, innocence
Spanish priests in Mexico are said to have named this flower after the Greek kosmos, meaning order and harmony, for its neatly spaced petals. It reached Japan in the Meiji era and became akizakura, the "autumn cherry blossom," and Momoe Yamaguchi's hit song "Cosmos" turned it into a symbol of autumn and family love. Despite its Chinese name, it has nothing to do with Persia.
