Birth flower for September 4
Fringed pink
Meaning: pure love, boldness
Each petal is cut so deeply into threads that the flower looks feathery. In Japan this is kawara-nadeshiko, the 'nadeshiko' among the seven flowers of autumn, and the phrase Yamato nadeshiko, a graceful yet resilient woman, comes from it. When Japan's women's football team won the 2011 World Cup, they were already known as Nadeshiko Japan, named after this flower.
