Birth flower for September 2
Pampas grass
Meaning: vitality and hearts that understand
Waves of silvery plumes rolling in the autumn wind are one of East Asia's classic seasonal sights. In Japan this grass, susuki, is one of the Seven Flowers of Autumn and is set out with rice dumplings as an offering for the harvest moon. It's often called pampas grass in English, though true pampas grass is a South American cousin — this one is an Asian native, also known as Japanese silver grass.
