Birth flower for August 26
Mandevilla
Meaning: firm friendship
Mandevilla is named after Henry Mandeville, a British diplomat in Buenos Aires who sent the sweet-scented Chilean jasmine, Mandevilla laxa, back to Britain. Ironically, the popular garden hybrids sold today have little or no scent. Its petals twist like a pinwheel, and even its buds are spiraled like a rope.
