Birth flower for August 24
Golden trumpet
Meaning: happy memories
In the tropics its golden trumpets bloom almost all year, and the buds are twisted like a furled umbrella. The genus honors Frederic Allamand, an 18th century Swiss botanist. Cut stems ooze a white milky sap, and the species name cathartica means purging, a fair warning that the plant should never be eaten.
